Often “gray” is called an area, where the perception and orientation lose their usual certainties, and the judgment based on established values and criteria doesn’t work well. One way to deal with such a state of affairs is to tune up the perceived data to the convenient contrast of black and white. Another option is the effort to adjust one’s own senses and reconsider the judgment criteria, in order to achieve a clearer new understanding of the given in experience. In such conditions it is also possible to unfold the significant values of the “painterly gray” and paint. Obviously, I painted, without insisting that by painting alone one can make one’s way through a gray area.
